Mass murder and the American Dream. It turns out that a lot of what was said in the media about the Columbine shootings was simply wrong according to this story by Andrew Gumble in the Guardian. It turns out that the killers were not resentful nerds out to punish jocks, their aim was America itself. They were not ‘maladjusted’ and ’social rejects’ as the tale went, but rather popular kids and good students. That they planned to kills all their fellow students suggests to me more than individual pathology. I think I will come back to this after I get the time to read Dave Cullen’s book.
